I AM THE FLAG OF THE
\nUNITED STATES OF AMERICA<\/p>\n
I am the flag of the United States of America.
\nMy name is Old Glory.
\nI fly atop the world’s tallest buildings.
\nI stand watch in America’s halls of justice.
\nI fly majestically over institutions of learning.
\nI stand guard with power in the world.
\nLook up and see me.<\/p>\n
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
\nI stand for freedom.
\nI am confident.
\nI am arrogant.
\nI am proud.<\/p>\n
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
\nMy head is a little higher,
\nMy colors a little truer.<\/p>\n
I bow to no one!
\nI am recognized all over the world.
\nI am worshipped – I am saluted.
\nI am loved – I am revered.
\nI am respected – and I am feared.<\/p>\n
I have fought in every battle of every war
\nFor more then 200 years.
\nI was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg,
\nShiloh and Appomattox.
\nI was there at San Juan Hill,
\nThe trenches of France,
\nIn the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome
\nAnd the beaches of Normandy, Guam.
\nOkinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam<\/p>\n
Know me,
\nI was there.
\nI led my troops,
\nI was dirty, battle worn and tired,
\nBut my soldiers cheered me
\nAnd I was proud.
\nI have been burned, torn and trampled
\nOn the streets of countries I have helped set free.
\nIt does not hurt, for I am invincible.<\/p>\n
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn
\nAnd trampled on the streets of my country.
\nAnd when it’s by those whom I’ve served in battle – it hurts.
\nBut I shall overcome – for I am strong.<\/p>\n
I have slipped the bonds of Earth
\nAnd stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space
\nFrom my vantage point on the moon.
\nI have borne silent witness
\nTo all of America’s finest hours.
\nBut my finest hours are yet to come.<\/p>\n
When I am torn into strips
\nAnd used as bandages
\nFor my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
\nWhen I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
\nOr when I lie in the trembling arms
\nOf a grieving parent
\nAt the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
\nI am proud.<\/p>\n
